Having spoken to young people at the Well Centre, in schools and at the Youth Club, the majority vote was to do a three-day workshop on healthy eating.
This day was split into two, during the morning session one of our GPs talked about why what we eat is so important for our bodies and what happens in our body when we eat the wrong foods! The YouTube clips looking at different foods which had sugar, fat and salt really caught the young people’s attention. The afternoon session was with the Well Centre’s counsellor who talked about food and how it can affects our mood.
We got creative and went out to buy some ingredients to make some healthy meals! Foods included home-made pizza, chicken and sweet & sour sauce made with pineapples and tomato puree. We all enjoyed the food we cooked, with the young people surprised at how quick it was to cook.
This was our Fun Day! We went bowling and had a meal together discussing what they enjoyed from the three days and what they had learned. Many said they would definitely make meals with different ingredients rather than buying it in a bottle - which we feel is a great success!!!
