The Well Centre was founded five years ago by Redthread CEO John Poyton and Dr Lamb, a GP Partner at Herne Hill Group Practice. The centre offers young people access to GPs, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) counsellors and Redthread youth workers in a youth centre setting as opposed to a GP surgery. This relaxed environment has been successful in engaging young people from Lambeth as well as surrounding boroughs.
This paper delves into an audit of this service over its first three years. The Well Centre has been well attended: from January to December 2014 there were 1600 sessions between staff and young people, with the average client visiting four times that year. The Well Centre engages with a high percentage of disadvantaged young people, who are less likely to attend a traditional doctor’s surgery.
Within this three-year time period, Dr Lamb also designed a “Teen Health Check”. The check is a tool allowing clinical staff to assess a young person’s health and wellbeing using a semi-structured checklist, it has regularly been used in patient assessments at the Well Centre.
Overall this paper has shown the number of positive results The Well Centre has produced in its infancy and its potential for growth. Click here for access to the full paper.
